Celtic face battle from Newcastle for Eddie Howe, according to report

Celtic could face a battle from Newcastle, should the Premier League side sack embattled boss Steve Bruce. Bruce has been under pressure given poor results and poor performances since replacing Rafa Benitez in 2019. Bruce is reportedly being given more time by Mike Ashley after fan protests.

Newcastle currently sit in 17th, with a game in hand and two points over Fulham. Bruce may face fiercer criticism from the Magpies support, opening the door to a move for Eddie Howe. According to Chronicle Live, Howe is open to the prospect of speaking to Newcastle if they are interested in bringing the ex-Bournemouth boss to St James’ Park.

The 43-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic Park as well as Newcastle United and Crystal Palace but so far, the Englishman is yet to make a decision on his next job. As it stands, Celtic need to mount an astonishing rebuild and Dominic McKay will know that he is walking into an immensely difficult job; however, a manager like Howe in an elite footballing operation with a scouting overhaul and a Director of Football can catapult Celtic back to the league title next season. Celtic are still looking for a new manager but as we look to the re-opening of society, we are getting closer to the appointment of a new manager.

Howe is one of the names on the Celtic shortlist, along with Roy Keane, Jesse Marsch and Steve Clarke. However,  fans will be hoping that a decision is imminent in coming weeks.
