Blow for Celtic as Premier League side move to block double free transfer raid

It seems fair to say that most Premier League clubs can pay more than Celtic in wages, but there are still a few that might be on a similar financial level.

That could include Burnley, and it would make sense after Celtic were linked with a move for two of their players who are soon to be out of contract.

According to HITC, Celtic were looking to sign left midfielder Robbie Brady and central midfielder Jeff Hendrick, but Burnley have moved to stop that from happening.

Brady has a one year option that they’ve taken up on his contract, while Hendrick could have a similar option too. It’s not clear if they plan to keep playing them or of this is a tactic to get a transfer fee, but it will probably stop Celtic from signing the pair.

They are both Republic of Ireland internationals and would’ve made interesting signings, as they offer something different to the rest of the squad.

Brady is a dead ball specialist and a left footed left winger who looks to get the ball in the box as much as possible, while Hendrick is much more of a physical box to box midfielder who could bring energy to the midfield.

The extensions haven’t been made official yet so in theory Celtic could still contact them to make an offer, but it looks highly unlikely that either will be in Glasgow next season.
