Blow for Celtic supporters as Sunday’s game given go-ahead

Celtic’s game on Sunday against Dundee United will go ahead but with the caveat that the Jerry Kerr Stand, which normally houses most Celtic fans, will remain empty due to storm damage.

Fans had been worrying that the game would be scrapped all together but Celtic confirmed that the game would go ahead but with the stadium limited due to the hazardous roof.

In a statement, Celtic updated supporters to the situation that had developed at Tannadice ahead of the game this weekend.

“Dundee United have today confirmed that, following storm damage being caused to the Jerry Kerr Stand, it will now be closed for the match this Sunday, December 5, 2021, which will regrettably mean a number of Celtic supporters are unable to attend the match.

“Clearly we sympathise with all those supporters affected and understand the disappointment this will cause.

“Please note, Celtic supporters who have been allocated tickets in this stand will receive a full refund. Celtic Football Club will the manage the refund process and will communicate directly with those supporters affected.”

“We would echo Dundee United’s request that supporters without tickets do not travel to Tannadice Park for safety reasons.

“Celtic would like to reassure supporters that this match will not be taken into consideration with the regards to future ticket allocations.”

Due to extreme weather conditions on Friday, United reported damage to their stadium and that they would be assessing the damage and trying to restore the damaged sections of the ground. A United spokesperson confirmed on Monday that parts of the Jerry Kerr Stand were impacted by the adverse weather conditions.

“Following Friday night’s Storm Arwen, we can confirm parts of the Jerry Kerr Stand roof were damaged. As a result Dundee City Council closed the road outside.

“Assessment of damage and restoration will begin today and is expected to last a few days.”

It is disappointing that the game will be played with the stand shut but it is better than the game not going ahead at all.
