Boost for supporters as Government set to OK test match next week

CELTIC SUPPORTERS were forced to watch this season’s European games kick off behind closed doors last night due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the news from the Daily Record this morning is immensely promising that supporters will soon be back at Paradise. The Scottish Government and Scottish Rugby Union chiefs are locked in discussions about opening Murrayfield to 1000 spectators next week for Glasgow Warriors versus Edinburgh.

Celtic and the SRU had teamed up to deliver test match events to see the viability of running events with new measures in place. Although Peter Lawwell’s July friendly plans were kicked into touch by ministers. Now, the Rugby stadium will host the first test matches with the return to Paradise dependant on its success.

Celtic and the Rugby Authorities want to make the stadiums bio-secure, meaning that they will have one way systems, sanitiser and social distancing as well as supporters wearing masks in the ground. This will be the reality of football as we ease back into stadiums. As the pair have worked together before, you would think that should the initial test work at Murrayfield, Celtic would not be far behind and this could mean a return to Paradise soon.

It may not be the same as 60,000 supporters but it is a start.
