Box Office Brendan makes brilliant comment on Rangers coming

Brendan Rodgers was at his Box Office best as Celtic beat Rangers 2-1 in the Glasgow Derby on Saturday. After a month that saw Celtic lose two league games in a row, Rodgers and his team dominated and won the second meeting between the sides.

The Irishman has an incredible record in this fixture and clearly relishes playing them. The comments that he made in the post match media conference show he is acutely aware of the hacks role in building Rangers up and putting his team down but his focus will always be on Celtic.

“Over my two spells here I’ve worked against five Rangers managers and every time Rangers were ‘coming’… every time.’

“So for me, it’s normal. If I listened to the media and the press then we would be in constant crisis mode and constant fear of Rangers.

“But it’s the fifth manager now.

“My focus is only on Celtic and concentrating very much on here. A lot of the stuff that maybe does go around, I ignore it.

“We showed today with a team missing key players that can make the difference for us, that we’re competitive and can improve.”

Rodgers hits the nail on the head and bodies the narrative around the club from the last few weeks. The Celtic manager will now look to Tuesday’s game against St Mirren as an opportunity to start the new year on a high and go off to the winter break with three points. Celtic have improved after winter breaks in recent years and Rodgers will be keen on replicating that this season with new signings adding quality to the side.

Goals from Paulo Bernardo and Kyogo put Celtic ahead before James Tavernier pulled one back with a free kick. The Scottish Champions were the better team and now go eight points clear, albeit Rangers have two games in hand.
