Brendan Rodgers hoping to seal reunion with Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard

Brendan Rodgers is hoping to seal a reunion with Odsonne Edouard by bringing him to the Premier League this summer. Edouard, 23, is expected to leave the club this summer as the club look to rebuild from a poor season, which ended Celtic’s stranglehold over Scottish football.

According to TeamTalk, Rodgers is expected to beat off competition from West Ham and Leicester in order to seal a move for Edouard with the Irishman seeing him as a replacement for the ageing Jamie Vardy.

The attacker has scored 21 goals and assisted 6 in 38 games this season as Celtic relinquished the treble in season that fans will hope can be quickly forgotten. Rodgers meanwhile, who is still hoping for a Champions League place with the Foxes, hopes to re-sign the player that he brought to Celtic in 2017. Edouard spent a season on loan from PSG before sealing a £9m switch. He was tipped to complete a transfer in the region of £35m last season but no deal transpired.

Edouard’s value will have dipped with a year to go on his contract but the club will no doubt still demand £20m for their star striker, who is the top scorer in the league this year – despite Celtic’s abysmal season. With 16 goals in 12 games, Edouard has an incredible goalscoring record with France’s U21s, L’Espoirs.

The Celtic talisman is one of Europe’s hottest talents and the performances with the national side will surely catapult him into the eyes of both Didier Deschamps with the World Champions but also potential suitors in the summer.
