Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on the fitness of captain Callum McGregor after he missed Friday’s training session at Lennoxtown. The Scottish Champions won 7-1 in an enthralling performance against Dundee in which Rodgers’ team showed their best form, although Rodgers was forced to take the skipper off after he netted the sixth goal before half time.
Speaking to the media conference, the Irishman confirmed that the 30-year-old had to come off against Dundee due to a tightness felt during the game.
“Callum came off at half-time during the week, he felt his achilles a little bit and his calf…we just have to assess that and see where he is at over the next 24 hours.”
Rodgers was forced to replace the skipper with Daniel Jelly and the youngster made his impact felt by scoring the 7th goal with a brilliant finish. Despite his performance in the second half, you would imagine that he might not ready for the powder keg at Tynecastle.
Celtic will now likely be without the skipper for the game at Tynecastle on Sunday against Hearts. It now likely means that Paulo Bernardo will come into the team to join Tomoki Iwata and Matt O’Riley with Kelly and Odin Thiago Holm able to provide further depth in the squad.
