Brighton agree £250,000 deal with Celtic for 16 year old Hoops defender

Premier League side Brighton have agreed to pay a £250,000 fee to Celtic for 16-year-old Academy prospect Ronan Ferns, with the young Hoops defender now set to join up with the Seagulls this summer.

The Scotland youth star had not yet signed professional terms at Celtic but the club were reportedly keen to sign him. Ferns, has impressed as both a defender and in midfield as he came through the excellent Celtic Academy system, however as he has yet to sign professional terms with the club, Brighton hae been able to pounce meaning yet another promising youngster leaves Celtic way too soon.

Celtic would have been entitled to training compensation but instead have agreed a deal that according to reporter Scott Burns at the Daily Record will also see the Hoops get further add-ons as the player progresses.

Ronan Ferns will join Brighton’s under-23 and development squad in the first instance. It goes without saying that wee wish the boy the best of luck for his career in the game but these cross border raids are an increasing concern with little or nothing that can be done about it.
