Why Brighton are wasting their time on Hibs’ European hero John McGinn

SKY SPORTS have a story that Brighton and Hibs have held talks regarding Celtic target John McGinn.

Until now the only bids that the Easter Road have received for the midfielder, who scored the vital goal last night that took Hibs through in the Europa League qualifiers, have come from Celtic.

That remains the position this morning. News of “talks” leaked to Sky changes nothing.

If Brighton decided to bid for McGinn they would have to have the player’s agreement to sign for the English Premiership side. That seems unlikely and if that is indeed the position then Celtic will be fully aware of it.

The English window closes on 9 August. Hibs effectively have until then to drum up English interest in the player, maybe to spook Celtic into a third bid.

It’s all gone quiet for a few days on this with the latest last weekend being the suggestion that Celtic are digging in to wait for a pre-contract deal that can be signed on 1 January 2019.

However a factor that may result in a change of mind on that is the news that Scott Brown has being playing through the pain barrier in the European qualifiers, as Brendan Rodgers revealed HERE.
