Bristol City reject £9M bid for Celtic target Semenyo

Rumoured Celtic target Antoine Semenyo has been the subject of a bid of £9 million which has been rejected by Bristol City. The Ghana forward has attracting admiring glances from scouts around Europe after his performances over the season in the English Championship. This has prompted one club to make a play for the striker, according to a report in Bristol World.

Celtic are supposedly one of many teams keeping a close eye on the attacker, with Ange Postecoglou wanting to add another striker to bolster his ranks for next season’s tilt at domestic and European football. Ryan Mmaee of Ferencvaros was another of the names being linked to fill this void. Although any new forward would depend on cutting ties with Albian Ajeti who is clearly surplus to requirements at the Scottish Champions.

Semenyo is currently injured, having hurt himself during international duty with Ghana. But the player is not short of admirers, with the article name-checking the Bhoys along with Bournemouth, Fulham and Crystal Palace as just a handful of club’s that are tracking the Robins’ star man.

With ambitions to play in the Premier League just about on the agenda for every player in the modern game, Semenyo is no different. However, any sides looking to procure the African striker in this window will have to pay an eye-watering £15 million for a player who is in the final year of his deal this season.

A bit too rich for Celtic’s blood it would seem.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
