Broony ‘was basically assaulted twice in the game, for a bit of mind games,’ Calmac

CALLUM McGREGOR entered the big bad Broony debate this afternoon. The Celtic captain was the subject of intense abuse from the Ibrox stands on 29 December and they all loved their player Scott Arfield doing the Broony to Broony as they drew level on points at the top of the Premiership.

Brown, then a veteran on 34 matches against Rangers clubs while playing for Celtic, didn’t react but filed it under revenge. The dish was served up on Sunday by the Celtic legend.

Morelos is tonight sitting with a fine and a four match ban and the potential bidders might be having second thoughts or decide they want a hefty discount if they are to take the risk.

Kent is getting at least a two match ban. He’d be wise to accept it otherwise he’ll miss maybe four matches. That means he’ll have to sit out tomorrow night’s match against Hearts at Ibrox where an away win will set up a title party on Saturday in the east end of Glasgow, provided Celtic take care of our own business.

That’s all down to Broony.

“I don’t think Scott did anything wrong,” Callum said. “Tactical, mind games, whatever you want to call them, are part of football.

“He never actually did a lot wrong. The Morelos one, he runs across the path of him and he gets that reaction.

“People can say what they want about Scott Brown, that didn’t warrant the reaction it got.

“He was basically assaulted twice in the game, for a bit of mind games and a bit of tactics. That’s nothing for anyone to speak about Scott and his behaviour, it is obviously the other side.”

McGregor confirmed that there was no agreed plan to target hot-heat Morelos, it was “never a specific tactic” Calmac stated to the media but admitted that the everyone knows that Morelos is likely to react. Professional footballers “are not stupid” he said but “I wouldn’t say it was in the game plan.” You get the point, players at every club are going to wind up Morelos now that everyone knows his weakness.

“But players are professional footballers, they understand what they see in other games and they are not stupid, they know how to win games.

“There are different ways of winning football matches and as I say, if you can provoke people or do things to get an advantage then it is fair game.

“You can see his record over the season. If people provoke him or try to get in his head or whatever then he is going to react.

“In a big game for us, we are always trying to get the edge, whether football-wise or tactical, you try to get any advantage you can to win these games because at the end of the day the only thing that matters is the result.”

Callum also spoke to Celtic TV about the new Celtic Festival that is being held in the summer. Watch the video below…
