Callum McGregor is a fine player who could get even better

Callum McGregor is one fine player, Under Brendan’s guidance he might get even better. Celtic’s Treble winning captain scored the opener for Scotland in last nights (eventual) win over Georgia at a rain drenched Hampden as Scotland took another step to Euro 2024.

Callum is an important part of Steve Clarkes side just as he is at Celtic. The first name on the team sheet. He’s the complete player. Callum does a lot of work on and off the ball that sometimes goes unnoticed and to an extent unappreciated. You would certainly notice if he was absent from the side.

He plays in a typical European style, his use on and off the ball is excellent, he never panics, he can find the net and his is wholeheartedly committed. His fitness is fantastic and he plays every single minute of every single game. He’s a real leader and he wouldn’t look out of place playing in any of the so called big five European leagues.

There was a time when Callum’s ability was questioned and there were doubts if he would make the grade at Celtic, but he’s proved those doubters wrong and became an important player for both club and country. Now the skipper of a treble winning Celtic side. A Celtic and Scotland side without him is unthinkable.

Callum’s game of course moved to a new level under Brendan Rodgers and the Irishman is in a big way responsible for the Callum McGregor of today.

Callum will be an important player under Brendan once more moving forward, and he can only get better. Scott Brown was 31 and thought to be past his best when Brendan arrived last time around, but he moved his game to a new level when it wasn’t thought possible. So he will most likely do the same for Callum.

Callum McGregor is already an outstanding player with nothing to prove, and if his game is upped a level we are going to witness one fine player indeed.

I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.
