Cameron Carter-Vickers headed for the World Cup

Cameron Carter-Vickers has been selected for the US Mens National Team ahead of the World Cup in Qatar. The central defender has stepped up in recent weeks for Celtic, taking on the role of stand-in skipper with Callum McGregor’s absence.

Now, CCV will be headed to Qatar for the World Cup as he is set to clash with former Spurs teammate Harry Kane as the sides meet in the Group Stages.

Carter-Vickers will be joined at the World Cup by Aaron Mooy (Australia) and Josip Juranovic (Croatia) whilst today’s match winner Daizen Maeda (Japan) completes the quartet representing the Hoops.

Credit to all players selected by Carter-Vickers has been excellent defensively for Celtic this season. Hopefully he can fly the flag for Scottish football, as well as the USMNT.

Elsewhere, Celtic have stuck to their guns and have decided against releasing any players not going to the World Cup for International friendlies. Steve Clarke bemoaned this but the reality is that the Sydney Cup is more important to Celtic than a Scotland friendly against Turkey.
