“Can’t always be spectacular”: General feeling of job done as Celtic find a way past St Mirren

The stats did always suggest that this could be a tricky test tonight. Obviously Celtic will always expect to beat St Mirren, but they don’t concede many and tend to make life difficult.

There was certainly an uneasy feeling at half time as Ross County capitulated in the first half, but there had been chances in the first half – It was just a clinical edge that was missing.

For all those nerves you always knew that one goal would probably lead to another. It would mean St Mirren would have to go chasing the game and it could leave a lot of space open at the back.

Celtic remain top on goals scored, albeit only one goal but it shows how fine the margins can be. Nobody will really remember this game at the end of the season but there’s a general feeling of job done after the game.

Here’s a look at some of the reaction on Twitter:

On a night where James Forrest celebrated a new contract and being “gifted” a song, it seems fitting that his goal is currently the difference between the two teams at the top.

Mohamed Elyounoussi also deserves some credit after stepping up his game in the past few weeks. He showed a calm head to take advantage of a lucky break and put Celtic ahead just after half time. It’s easily overlooked but some players can panic in that situation when the pressure is on.

We also don’t know how fatigued the players might have been after Lazio and Aberdeen. It’s possible that adrenaline managed to carry some tired legs at the weekend so it was always going to catch up with some players.

It maybe wasn’t spectacular, but the game was won and Celtic are still top of the league – it’s a situation that completely represents “job done”
