Celtic 1-0 Ross County: McGregor makes no mistake from the spot

It was looking like another of those games for the Hoops where they have struggled to find the opening goal. With half-time approaching, Celtic had not managed to find the back of the net against Ross County despite enjoying about 70% possession. But the breakthrough came in the 37th minute – from the penalty spot.

Mikey Johnston was adjudged to have been brought down in the box by Keith Watson and Celtic had the chance to go ahead. In the absence of regular penalty-taker Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor was the man to step up to take the spot-kick and he made no mistake. The midfielder beat the Ross County goalkeeper, Nathan Baxter, as he found the bottom right corner of the net to put the Bhoys 1-0 ahead at Parkhead.

With a number of stars missing in the line-up through injuries, this was never expected to be a high-scoring affair. And as a result, McGregor’s goal could prove to be vital when the referee blows the full-time whistle.
