Celtic abandon transfer talks for highly rated ace due to the asking price

The French market has been very good to Celtic in recent years, so it’s not a great surprise to see them looking to dip back into it again.

Moussa Dembele was a great find but it was also good planning to bring in Odsonne Edouard as his eventual replacement before he left for Lyon, as the transition was fairly seamless.

There’s nothing to suggest that Eddy is on the way out anytime soon, but it looks like Celtic might be going for a similar plan with his replacement, as they made an approach to Lyon:

You also wonder if the two clubs have good relations after the Dembele deal, but it clearly wasn’t enough to reach an agreement with this one.

Gouiri is highly rated and broke into the first team a couple of seasons ago, but he’s largely played for the B side and it’s hard to see him getting into the senior side just now.

It’s purely speculation at this point, but Lyon look set to miss out on the Champions League next season and may be forced to sell some of their better players to make up for the financial shortfall, so perhaps he will get more of a chance going forward.

Either way, it looks like this deal is dead for now.
