Celtic agree £2.5m fee for Josip Juranovic

Celtic have agreed a £2.5m fee for Josip Juranovic from Legia Warsaw. According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, a fee has been agreed between the Polish Champions and Ange Postecoglou’s side. The clubs are just awaiting personal terms being agreed for the deal to conclude.

The player is said to be keen on a deal so there should not be any complications with the personal terms as Celtic look to end their hunt for a right-back.

The club have been looking for a new right-back in recent weeks with names like Yan Couto and Aurelio Buta mentioned as the club continue in their attemps to replace Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed from January of this year. Jonjoe Kenny filled the gap in the second half of last season but Anthony Ralston has been the only available option so far under Postecoglou. Ralston has impressed but it has been clear that a quality alternative is needed with Ralston proving himself as a very capable deputy.

Juranovic started his career as a midfielder, which may stand him in good stead to play in Postecoglou’s desired IWB role. For Legia, the ten-cap Croatian Internationalist made 40 appearances as they won the Polish title. These performances lead to him being used as the first pick at Euro 2020 as Croatia finished second in the group after beating Scotland 3-1 at Hampden.

After just a year in Poland, Celtic look set to sign the player for just £2.5m. This represents an excellent deal for Celtic, especially considering that this is Croatia’s first-choice right-back. Hopefully, the deal can be concluded in coming days as Ange’s side look to strengthen.
