Celtic agree deal for Yang Hyun-Jun, with another Korean likely

Celtic have agreed a fee of £2.1 million to bring Gangwon FC winger Yang Hyun-Jun to Glasgow. The 21-year-old was named K League Young Player of the Season last year and has been very vocal in his desire to join Celtic.

According to Sport Chosun, there is a “high possibility” that Celtic will also complete the signing of Kwon Hyeok-kyu from Busan I-Park.

The article details that Celtic have been following the 22-year-old for three years and attempted to sign him in the winter.

Kwon Hyeok-kyu, a defensive midfielder, has drawn comparisons to Man City player Rodri in recent times. The South Korea u23 international has made 19 appearances for Busan in K League 2 this season, scoring two goals as his side sit third in their respective league.

The pursuit of both players shows Celtics interest and knowledge in the Korean market is steadily increasing, something Celtic fans should embrace as the club looks to continue to scout and sign players from undervalued markets.

Could another South Korean player be on the way to Glasgow also? Well according to the same source Celtic are also close to signing Busan Ipark midfielder Kwon Hyeok-kyu, a 22 year old midfielder. Hyeok-kyu can play anywhere in the centre of the park, but other than that he is an unknown quantity.
