Celtic and PSG to play pre-season friendly match in July

CELTIC and PSG are reportedly considering a friendly match in an effort to prepare their sides for the new season.

L’Equipe are reporting that that Champions of France and the Champions of Scotland will meet in a friendly match next month as both teams prepare for a return to competitive action in August.

The report says something like this…”PSG should organise three or four friendly matches as part of its summer preparation. The first, against the club’s U19, on 9 July, the second in Le Havre, on 11 or 12 July, and two others on dates that will be determined based on those of the French Cup and League finals.

“Discussions are also underway with Anderlecht and Celtic Glasgow, who could be opponents of the champion of France,” L’Equipe reports.

The news from respected French media outlet equipe.fr has been reported on social media this evening by Celtic France, who did an outstanding job transcribing the Odsonne Edouard podcast for the Celtic support earlier today, as reported on The Celtic Star.

Pre-season has already begun in small groups as Lennon’s side begin their preparation for the 10IAR season and attracting quality opponents will be a tough ask so a potential fixture versus PSG would be incredible practice for the club.

Earlier this month, Lennon spoke about how he plans to get his players up to start ahead of the August restart. Initially, teams will have to train in small groups but Lennon is hoping that once training increases in size, a training camp.

“Initially, we will be training in small groups which is fine, just basically bedding the players in again. Then we may look to go away to a training camp. We are pursuing a couple of avenues that may be a possibility.

“That would maybe allow us into training in bigger groups, which is obviously very important in your preparation for the new season. All those processes and think clouds are all in place at the minute. We do feel confident that if there is the possibility of going to a camp, we will.”

The manager of the 9IAR Champions also confirmed that the club were exploring the possibility of taking the camp abroad when asked if he would consider leaving Scotland should Scottish Government guidance allow.

“It could do, yes. That’s something we are looking at, no question.”

The Scottish Champions will have a hectic schedule when they return to action and Neil Lennon’s team will face the sternest test that they have had. Lennon was the man to start the push for 10IAR in 2012 and it is right that he stands as the man that could deliver the greatest domestic triumph.

So it looks like the second half of July is the likely date and we reported at the weekend that from 11 July the French Government are going to allow up to 5000 supporters inside the grounds in France to watch the games. If they are struggling to shift the tickets, let us know!

Celtic took a sensational lead the last time we played PSG in Paris, with the goal coming from Moussa Dembele. That’s the only memory of that game that remains fresh win the memory and the Celtic celebrations were awesome, I seem to remember. And 1-0 to Celtic would do nicely in July!
