Podcast guest Odsonne Edouard – “The King of Scotland, formerly of PSG”

CELTIC TALISMAN Odsonne Edouard has been speaking to the Team Ballin podcast in France about his time at Celtic and rather helpfully The Bhoys on Celtic France have been performing translation duties.

Dans un thread j’vais vous traduire les meilleurs moments, c’est super intéressant!

Translation as follows…”I’m going to translate the best bits in this thread, it’s really interesting…”

Now we’ve all been here before at the start of the year with the infamous Morelos interview in Spanish was translated for Sky Sports by some agenda driven fundamentalists over in the Kingdom of Govania. We’re on much safer ground here with the well respected Celtic France so here’s a flavour of what Odsonne has been talking about and if your French is up to it you can always have a listen – the link is below.

So here goes,  Celtic France translating Odsonne Edouard’s appearance the French speaking podcast

ODSONNE ÉDOUARD – Le roi d’Écosse formé au PSG

ODSONNE EDOUARD ON SIGNING FOR CELTIC...”I met Brendan Rodgers and his staff, they came over to Paris to see me. He showed me his determination to have me in his squad, he spoke about his projeCt for me. Since this meeting, no hesitation, Celtic was my first choice.”

ODSONNE EDOUARD ON BRENDAN RODGERS …“Rodgers told me his big ambitions, the way Celtic play an attacking football, he told me how is the context, the big stadium, great fans, big club. He spoke to me about different configurations with a sole striker or two and in all cases he would give me a lot of game time.

“I wanted to have a coach who could count on me. Rodgers offered me something real and coming to Celtic was the best project for me in the short and long term.”

ODSONNE EDOUARD ON ADAPTING TO LIFE IN SCOTLAND…“At this time, I just knew basic school words in English. Sportively, my adaptation went well, there are good guys in the team, a great staff. They welcomed me well and luckily Olivier and Moussa were there, they helped me a lot.

“I wasn’t comfortable with English, so if you add a Scottish accent it’s three times harder to understand. At the beginning, it wasn’t easy, I only felt good at the club. When I arrived I was at the hotel, while I found accommodation.

“When I came back to my hotel and it was time to eat, I didn’t know what I was doing. I had the menu, but I didn’t understand, I had random meals and sometimes the meals were weird, it was complicated. The worst dish? Some vegetables I have never seen in my life. ”

“When I was in my hotel room, I had a method, I had the menu and I used Google Images to understand and see the dishes. Now I have my habits in Glasgow, it’s been three  years that I live here so I know the city, I know good restaurants.”

ODSONNE EDOUARD ON GLASGOW… “Glasgow is a beautiful city, there is everything you need. There are a lot of fans in the streets, people recognize me so I take a minute to take a pic with the fans, it’s a pleasure. The Scots are nice and have a superb mentality.”

ODSONNE EDOUARD ON HEALTHY EATING… “Food is important for athletes, Celtic have a nutrition program, we have a sort of takeaway system, you can order something at the club and collect it. I eat it for dinner, it’s healthy and balanced.”

“Off the pitch, I’m working out with a French group who works with professional footballers. They’re coachs, physiotherapists, nutritionists… I work with them since almost a year now.”

ODSONNE EDOUARD ON THE CELTIC DRESSING ROOM…I’m a leader on the pitch, I’m discreet in the dressing room. We have our habits, in the team everybody knows who are the leaders in the dressing room. I show my personality on the pitch.”

ODSONNE EDOUARD ON PERFORMING FOR THE TEAM… “I am more disappointed if I put on a poor individual performance than if I don’t score. I prefer to perform well, not to score and help the team rather than putting on a poor individual performance and scoring a goal.

ODSONNE EDOUARD ON KOLO TOURE… “When I first arrived at Celtic it wasn’t easy, I played 3-4 games and after I wasn’t even on the bench. Moussa and Leigh scored a lot. There was competition in the team. There was a difficult period for me. I was lucky to have Kolo Toure in the staff.

“Kolo Touré helped me a lot, talked to me all the time. After trainings, I stayed 30-40min with him to work more. I never gave up, I stayed focused and serious. I was waiting for the manager to give me a chance to shine. The most important thing is to take your chance.

“The manager came to see me in the middle of a week and told me I was going to start this week-end. Two weeks before, I played with the reserves. I was angry and disappointed. I was thinking about lots of things at this time. Why did I come? I should have stayed in Paris.”

I said nothing and I worked hard. I was determined, I gave everything, it’s now or never. I take this chance.”

RESULT…

THANKS again to Celtic France for performing the translating duties. French speakers can listen to the Team Ballin Podcast HERE.
