FORMER CELTIC striker Chris Sutton has said that he is ‘surprised’ that Celtic allowed Jonny Hayes to leave the club as the 32-year-old appears destined to re-sign for Aberdeen.
Hayes has been tipped to sign a two year deal with the Pittodrie side, three years after leaving to join the Scottish Champions. Sutton has branded the decision as surprising for Neil Lennon to allow the versatile left sided player to leave. Hayes was a diligent and determined squad player, who was always reliable when called upon whether that was domestically or in Europe. Celtic’s loss is certainly Aberdeen’s gain.
Surprised Celtic didn’t hold on to him but good luck to Johnny Hayes on his return to Aberdeen… always gave his all in a Celtic jersey and never let the team down. Decent business for Aberdeen.

Hayes is a good piece of business for Aberdeen, who have themselves been dealing with the financial impact caused by Coronavirus but it is a potential hazard to Celtic in the future with Hayes strengthening a strong side in the league.
Hayes lived the dream and played for a successful Celtic side. In 62 appearances for the Scottish Champions, Hayes’ highlight was probably his goal at Ibrox, which sealed Celtic’s 2-0 win over Steven Gerrard’s side. The Irishman leaves the club with 8 winners medals after being part of one of the club’s most successful periods.
