Chris Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live that Celtic are the losers in this pandemic. Speaking as a pundit for the radio station, Sutton said: “I think Celtic are the team who are going to lose out in all this. If they shut the season down, Celtic are going to miss out on the chance of another treble, aren’t they?”
It’s a point worth bearing in mind when Celtic fans get excited at the prospect of nine in a row being complete. Celtic have the title in the bag if the season gets played out and we are just two games away from a quadruple treble. To have to win the League Cup and reach the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, with our toughest competitor eliminated again, would be a big ask. Even then it’d rob us of a potential fifth consecutive treble.
“If they shut the season down there’ll be no Scottish Cup, so they’ll lose out on that opportunity. I’ve lost how count of how many trebles they’ve won so Celtic are the losers in all this,” Sutton continued.
Of course there’s more important matters in life right now, but where football is concerned it’s certainly not ideal to be finishing seasons early.
