Although there’s been a ton of coverage about a possible January exit for Odsonne Edouard, it all seems to be generated by people not really connected with the player. That’s a good sign.
He’s been on a fantastic run and his exploits for the French U21 side will only help to enhance his reputation, but that doesn’t mean Celtic should be looking to sell him anytime soon. It’s notable that there are no real comments from the player or his representatives about wanting to move.

Of course we have to be realistic and accept the time will come to let him go for a hefty fee, only that shouldn’t be until the summer in 2021 at least. If the board play this properly then it can only help to raise his value as time goes on.
The latest comments from the boss are a pretty emphatic way of giving the old “hands off warning” for anyone who might be interested in making a January move for Eddy. Some of Lenny’s comments were picked up by The Sun.
Thankfully it doesn’t seem like progress in the Europa League is pivotal to keeping the Frenchman either. Neil Lennon said:
“‘We may, or may not, be in Europe after January, so that’s even more reason for him not to go.It wouldn’t hinge on that either, absolutely not. But it would be a nice carrot for him and a reason to settle himself.”
The story goes on to suggest that Lazio, Roma, Napoli, Lyon and Borussia Dortmund have all been linked with his signature. At this point you can only imagine the media frenzy would go into overdrive if Edouard scores the goals to help Celtic beat Lazio in the upcoming double header.
Thankfully that shouldn’t matter for now, but it would just continue to bump that price tag up in a couple of years.
