Celtic can reverse momentum and kick-start a new period of dominance on Sunday after Rangers’ Europa capitulation

Obviously the circumstances surrounding the game on Sunday are far from ideal if you look at them from a Celtic point of view, but we’ve seen it coming all season so there’s no need to wallow.

Steven Gerrard brings the Rangers to Celtic Park as Champions and obviously that’s a big deal for them, but it suddenly means they can’t use the underdog tag anymore and suddenly all the expectation is on them to deliver.

Momentum plays a major part in football and it can be difficult to reverse, but Celtic have the perfect chance to kick-start a new period of dominance on Sunday with a victory.

You can see that they wanted to come into this game on the back of a Europa League victory, but the reality is we’ve all seen that they simply crumble when the pressure is on and suddenly the referees aren’t scared to make big calls.

Slavia Prague were comfortable winners tonight and the Rangers capitulated with a couple of stupid red cards, so it also shows a lack of discipline is present in that squad.

In some ways it’s almost a good thing that the league is already wrapped up going into this weekend – it means the weight of pressure is off and some players might feel they can play with more freedom.

John Kennedy simply needs to instil a feeling into this squad that this season is gone and everything is now about building for next year, while Celtic can go into the summer with a feeling of confidence if they can win the next couple of derby games.

Slavia Prague showed tonight that the Rangers aren’t a special team and they can be beaten if you simply play your own game and go at them, so here’s hoping Celtic do that on Sunday and start to turn this thing around with a comfortable victory.

  1. Once again, sevco were beaten, and the match finished in very ugly scenes.! The rangers can not accept they can be beaten.! They always cause trouble whenever they get beat, claiming this and that, and those wee angels that play for hem never step out of line!.. How very very refreshing to see a referee doing his job properly, without fear of expulsion from masonic or orange order lodges!. Great to see ref doing his jo correctly, but of course the shouting this morning will be hey we’re cheated!!!. Gerrard is a disgrace, and ,as yet I have not read a paper, but the Scottish press will probably screaming “blue murder” also!. Sevco players showed where their ” fans” get the attatude from. And it stinks!. The players showed just what thugs they are, and Gerrard pointing into the face of opposition players??? Yes very nice man, just as big a midden as his supporters! A manager, no, just another sevco thug!!.
