Celtic chiefs are concerned £20m rated star will use the international break to force a transfer

There’s been so much speculation about Kristoffer Ajer this summer and it looked like that was put to bed when he changed his agent.

Unfortunately the rumours have started up again after the Champions League exit, while Lenny has spoken about players not wanting to be there, so many will presume that it was a passive aggressive dig at Ajer.

The signing of Shane Duffy will only fuel those rumours even more, as either Ajer or Jullien would need to make way in the line up unless Celtic play a regular three man defence this season.

Football Insider have also looked at the situation, and it sounds like a few people at Celtic are concerned that Ajer will use the upcoming international break to try and force a transfer.

It’s thought that he will use the time away to possible speak to other clubs and try to reach an agreement with someone else, but they do point out that Celtic are asking for £20m and that might be too much.

If the Norwegian defender genuinely doesn’t want to be at the club then it would make sense just to let him go. He’s proven that he’s not a true difference maker at the highest level and if Celtic can get a big fee then it can be reinvested back into the team.

His departure would then trigger a hunt for another centre back to replace him, but it will be interesting to see if he manages to force his way out in the next few weeks.
