Celtic confirm pay-per-view gesture ahead of Dundee Utd clash

Celtic have confirmed that they will be offer supporters using the pay-per-view service a discount for the forthcoming clash against Dundee United at Celtic Park. On Sunday, Celtic beat St Mirren in a fairly routine win over the visitors from Paisley; however, midway through the second half, Celtic Park went dark due to a power cut.

For those of us at the game, there was a short delay and a few alterations to the matchday experience but we were able to see the three points being secured. However, fans that had purchased the £12.99 PPV option for the game were left disappointed as the picture was lost before issues plagued the rest of the stream.

Recognising this, Celtic have moved to offer supporters a discounted rate to watch the action as Jim Goodwin’s United come to Paradise. In an update on Monday evening, Celtic confirmed the goodwill discount.

“Following Sunday’s power outage in the wider Parkhead area of Glasgow that caused disruption to normal matchday services inside Celtic Park, the club has assessed the effect this had on Celtic TV’s Pay-Per-View broadcast of the game against St Mirren.

“We acknowledge that, unfortunately, the power outage resulted in a loss of pictures and audio for part of the second half’s live coverage.

“While the cause of the disruption was entirely outwith the control of the club, in light of these circumstances, Celtic will be reducing the previously advertised Pay-Per-View pricing by 50% for the forthcoming game against Dundee United at Celtic Park this Wednesday, January 8.

“We hope that this discount will enable supporters who can’t make it to Celtic Park to enjoy the full game at home at a reduced price of £5.99 as a token of appreciation for your support on Sunday.

“Celtic TV subscribers in the UK and Ireland will receive a discounted rate of £4.99, which will be automatically applied at checkout.

“We would like to take the opportunity to thank you once again for your ongoing support and understanding related to this issue.”

Celtic won the game 3-0 thanks to a brace from Nicolas Kühn as well as a first goal for the club from Auston Trusty. The victory opens up a 13 point gap over Rangers at the top of the Premiership table. Celtic will be looking to continue their excellent home form on Wednesday while hoping that United’s city rivals, Dundee, can take something off Rangers at Dens Park.
