AFTER last night’s humiliating defeat to Hungarian Champions Ferencvaros the Celtic support deserved some good news. They were duly rewarded this morning with a small crumb of comfort as the highly rated Scottish midfielder David Turnbull signed on a four year deal.
The club confirmed the signing this afternoon and one year on from the 21-year-old being pictured in the Hoops before a deal fell through, Celtic have got their man.

In what was the biggest transfer saga of last summer in Scottish football, David Turnbull to Celtic proved to be both frustrating and totally bizarre. A spat between the Motherwell, Celtic and Turnbull’s agent dominated headlines as statements came out detailing the progress. The deal seemed to have been lost by Celtic as newly promoted Norwich threatened to take the Scottish youngster to Carrow Road.
But then, Celtic came in and offered a deal that the player, agent and selling club were in agreement over, £3.25m. Turnbull was pictured beside Neil Lennon, Celtic had their man. Or did they?Midway through his medical, it became apparent that there was an issue to sabotage the deal. Turnbull had a rare knee condition, that had no symptoms. Instead of risking a potentially career ending injury by ignoring their discovery, Turnbull opted for the preventive surgery.
Hopefully Turnbull’s arrival doesn’t mean that Tom Rogic’s Celtic career comes to an end. With that said, Turnbull is a good signing with a lot of potential for the future. The club appear to have learnt from the John McGinn episode and tied down a talented youngster early instead of letting another club swoop in.
