Neil Lennon’s Slippy G moment as his Celtic players are thrown under the bus

Another season and yet again another European debacle. Every season we are unprepared and the same old failings coming back to haunt us.

Every supporter most seasons know where the team needs to be strengthened and yet we never seem to be able to make the signings required without some sort of circus.

We refer to Celtic as a big club, we defend them vigorously, but take a look around. Big clubs identify and conduct their business as the season is coming to a close or as soon as the season is over. They let go those that want to leave or are deemed not good enough or lack commitment.

How many times have we played recently with players being played out of position because we don’t have adequate cover or the manager would appear to have no confidence in the squad players?

The board for a long time have been accused of taking the support for granted. This year more than any I think we all hoped they’d push the boat out, they’d invest in the supporters as much as the supporters have invested in them/the club.

We weren’t asking for significant sums of money, just strengthen where we need to, get the players in and the squad settled. The need for this never being more evident than last night’s debacle, no recognised striker.

What does this say about our preparation for one of the biggest seasons in the club’s history, we’ve had Klimala for 6 months, just completed pre season and Neil Lennon states he wasn’t fit enough to start. Surely you start him, try and get the job done and then bring him off?

And Neil Lennon’s statement after last night’s game should be worrying for all supporters…..Not because players want to leave but because the manager is claiming that this has been known for some time and yet he waits until we’re 5 games into the new season before publicly highlighting it.

Now dissecting last night’s game and Neil Lennon’s statement it was pointed out to me that we had a great deal of humour when Slippy g threw his players under the bus last season. Lennon did the very same last night, the one difference being… he has done it to guys who have been part of a collective who have won the last 11 trophies in Scotland.

Is Lenny a Yes Man as has been levelled at him? I don’t know. I just know this year more than any other he should have been kicking doors in making sure business was done, out goings and incoming, positions identified and strengthened.

All we ask is to get the business conducted and replacements identified and brought in. Yes we’d be sad to lose talents such as Edouard but we’ve lost better and moved on.

Unfortunately in this case whatever players want out and yes we will move on but will we evolve, will the team be stronger for it? Sadly, I have no confidence it will be.

Hail Hail
