Celtic considering move for Mat Ryan, according to Sky Sports

Celtic are looking at a move for Brighton’s Mat Ryan. The goalkeeper is a target for Arsenal this summer but Ange Postecoglou is interested in a reunion with the goalkeeper that he made his number one while manager of Australia.

The 29-year-old spent the last half of the 2020/21 campaign on-loan at Arsenal with the Gunners pondering a return for the player as back-up to Leno next season. However, Sky Sports are reporting that Celtic are eyeing a move for the former Valencia stopper but have yet to commence talks with The Seagulls.

Ryan has just one year remaining on his deal with the Premier League outfit and is likely to be avaliable in the summer. Celtic would offer him first team football as well as the prospect of playing in Europe and competing for trophies, something that Arsenal will not be able to offer.

The player is one of Postecoglou’s trusted deputies from his successful spell with the Australian National Team and the pair may fancy the prospect of reuniting, especially after the issues that Celtic have had in goals this season. Vasilis Barkas was signed with the intention of being club No.1 but he struggled to settle with Scott Bain and Conor Hazard all deputising. Postecoglou will know that the manager’s position needs immediate attention.
