Celtic could go 4-4-2 against Livingston in Scottish Cup

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers could deploy a 4-4-2 formation against Livingston…

It’s a break from league duty this weekend as we take on Livingston in the Scottish cup quarter finals at Celtic Park.

Just like our league games this is a must win game as we want to win every honour we possibly can.

Livingston are having a torrid time this season and are firmly rooted at the bottom of the table. Just like ourselves David Martindales side will be welcoming the cup as a break from the rigours of league football and all the pressure that brings.

Even though it’s a cup game and anything is possible, I’d like to see us go with an ‘old fashioned’ 4-4-2 system.

We have two superb strikers in Kyogo and Adam Idah and we should look to pair them together more often and Sundays game is a massive opportunity to do so.

Even through it’s a cup tie, I fully expect Livi to be revert to their usual ultra defensive tactics. So playing such an attacking system with two clinical strikers up top makes sense, especially since we’re at home.

Idah’s strength will be beneficial against the bruising Livi backline while Kyogo as usual will keep them on their toes. Both of them have the potential to be a decent strike partnership.

That would leave the likes of Luis Palma and Daizen Maeda to supply the front two of Idah and Kyogo who will thrive in a more advanced role, particularly Kyogo.

Alistair Johnston and Greg Taylor will also be on the flanks to help out while Matt O’Riley and Tomoki Iwata will have us well covered in the middle. While at the back CCV and Liam scales will look to keep any Livi threat at a minimum.

No disrespect to Livingston but we should be beating them comfortably especially at home, and this type of formation should help us do that. Livi will sit deep and we need an attack minded side to breach that. Let’s hope we see just that on Sunday.

The Celtic team playing 4-4-2 that I’d like to see is Hart; Johnson, CCV, Scales, Taylor; Maeda, Tomoki, O’Riley, Palma; Kyogo and Idah.
