Celtic could have upper-hand in potential pursuit of Fabian Rieder

Celtic could have the advantage in any potential pursuit of Swiss midfielder Fabian Rieder. The 21-year-old is said to be in discussion with the Hoops’ recruitment team, yet it remains to be seen if the Parkhead club will indeed bid for the attacking midfielder at some point in the coming weeks of the summer transfer window.

The Young Boys player is hot property at the minute and according to his agent, Fabian von Matt, Borussia Monchengladbach isn’t the only team who is interested in his services as we speak. Interestingly enough, the very same man stated in an interview via publication, Bilck, that any prospective move for the Swiss youngster by the German club will depend on them getting bodies out of the door first, which will come as a major boost to the Bhoys.

Von Matt told Bilck: “Not true. Gladbach is one of the interested parties, that’s right. We are in contact with the club, that’s true too. But not only with Gladbach. And first the path must be cleared financially for an immigration of this dimension. In other words: Gladbach has to sell first. Fabian is at the top of the list at Gladbach.”

It’s quite an intriguing revelation by Rieder’s agent and could have the makings of a very good situation for the Glasgow club, as they are very flush following the massive sale of Portuguese winger, Jota, to Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League last week. Of course, nothing is set in stone as of yet, with many still pondering over who Brendan Rodgers will spend his mammoth transfer kitty on this close-season.

This one just got a whole lot more interesting though…

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
