Celtic crowned winners of Masters Football 2023 after Commons and Hooper roll back the years

Celtic were crowned the winners of Masters Football after beating Hearts, Rangers and Hibs on their way to picking up the trophy. Led by Joe Ledley, Celtic were spurred on to victory thanks to Kris Commons and Gary Hooper, who showed they still had their clinical edge in front of goal.

Mark Wilson, Mark Burchill, Dorus De Vries, Kelvin Wilson and Simon Donnelly also played their part as Celtic’s team showed themselves to be the best on a pretty hazardous surface at the Braehead Arena.

Maybe one of the highlights across the evening was Kelvin Wilson grappling with Ryan Stevenson on the floor after the pair battled for the ball.

It was good to see some proper Celtic heroes back playing, even if some of them have aged since the last time we saw them. There also appeared to be a good amount of banter flying about between players and fans that were there.

It is certainly a welcome feature to have Masters Football back but you would hope that next year there will be more of an effort to improve the quality of the surface so that players do not risk a serious injury.
