Celtic duo remain on bench as Japan beat Germany

Celtic duo Daizen Maeda and Kyogo were unused subs as Japan thrashed Germany in an International friendly match. As hosts for the Euros next summer, the Germans have no qualifiers to play but have been humbled by Japan this evening in Wolfsburg.

Goals from Junya Ito and Ayase Ueda had the visitors 2-1 ahead with Leroy Sane netting for Germany. However, two late goals from Takuma Asano and Ao Tanaka sealed the win for Hajime Moriyasu’s team.

Somewhat surprisingly, neither of the Celtic attackers featured. Kyogo scored the winner for Celtic in the Glasgow Derby against Rangers last weekend whilst Maeda’s work rate is a surprising omission from the starting XI given that Moriyasu prefers him through the middle.

Given the injury to Liel Abada while on International duty with Israel, Brendan Rodgers will likely have been relieved that two of his key attackers didn’t get on the pitch. The Irishman has had to contend with a number of injuries this season and he will certainly be keen to make sure that there are no more injuries picked up while the Celtis are away with their national teams.
