Celtic Day One launches with Canon Tom White’s tribute to Tommy Burns

A new website, celticdayone.com has been launched, so The Celtic Star is no longer the newest of all the Celtic sites. It’s a bit like waiting on a bus, you wait around for ages then two come along at roughly the same time!

So what’s celticdayone.com about?

Well, Celtic Day One is a new website that has been designed and developed by St Mary’s Parish, Calton. That makes it special already!

It plans to look at the links between Celtic FC and St Mary’s Church, Calton – the place where the Celtic Football Club was founded.

The aim is to look at the unique relationship between the Parish and the Football Club and how both histories are inextricably linked; this is intended to develop a wider and fuller understanding of the historical, social, cultural and religious components which come together to form our very unique football club.

“We are just starting off and the first entry concentrates on Tommy Burns, a parishioner of St Mary’s who played for and managed Celtic Football Club,” Frank Sheeran from Celtic Day One told The Celtic Star.

“He “got” both St Mary’s and Celtic.

“We will be celebrating Mass on Tuesday 15 May at 7:00PM in St Mary’s to mark the 10th anniversary of Tommy’s death. We hope the attendance 10 years on mirrors the attendance on the day of Tommy’s Requiem Mass 10 years ago,” Frank stated.

The initial Blog entry on the site is written by Canon Tom White, Parish Priest of St Mary’s and is a personal reflection on the late, great Tommy Burns. It is highly recommended.

“We are interested in your thoughts and comments on the site and its contents and will be opening up the blog to comments shortly,” Frank revealed.

“We are also open to contributions from both members of the Parish and the wider Celtic family, so if you want to contribute, feel free to contact us!” – there is a contact up page on the new site.

So, in more ways than one, it’s fair to say that by reading celticdayone.com you can Keep the Faith!
