Celtic defender joins Leeds for undisclosed fee as Dundee make loan bid for Leigh Griffiths

Leigh Griffiths is the subject of loan bid from his former club Dundee, according to Sky Sports  and the striker is reportedly keen on the idea, although Celtic are looking at other options from England and abroad for the striker who is clearly no longer part of Ange Postecogolou’s plans.

Aberdeen and Hibs have also been mentioned as possible destinations for the striker who is anxious to get playing regularly as he wants to make an international return for Scotland. His chances of breaking into the Celtic side seem slim to say the least and the player has been troubled by a series of injuries and personal problems over the past number of years, with the recent unpleasant controversy seen as the last straw for so many Celtic Supporters.

So it looks like Leigh Griffiths’ time at Celtic is coming to an end and in other transfer news the long anticipated transfer of Celtic Academy defender Leo Hjelde to Leeds United has now been complete. The Premier League club, on their official website, announced the deal.

Leo Hjelde who was on loan at Ross County last season has been a long term Leeds target and the player was keen to move to England, so with only a year left of his current contract Celtic had little alternative but to sell the player for an undisclosed fee. Here’s what Leeds Utd have been saying today…

Defender joins the Whites…

Leeds United are pleased to announce the signing of Leo Hjelde from Scottish Premiership side Celtic for an undisclosed fee.

Hjelde celebrated his 18th birthday this week, by signing a four-year-deal at Elland Road, running until the summer of 2025.

The defender last season spent time on loan from Celtic at fellow Scottish Premiership side Ross County, completing a move in the January transfer window. He went on to make 12 appearances in all competitions at Victoria Park, helping the Staggies secure their top-flight status.

Hjelde also scored one goal during his time with Ross County, which came in the 3-2 victory against Kilmarnock.

At youth level, Hjelde has won international caps for Norway at Under-16, 17 and 18 level. He becomes the club’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window and will initially link up with Mark Jackson’s Under-23 side
