Almost there, Georgios Giakoumakis edges closer to signing for Celtic

“Celtic are close to agreeing personal terms with VVV-Venlo striker Georgios Giakoumakis. It’s understood, if personal terms are finalised, a fee of around £2.5m has been agreed in principle between the clubs,” Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joesph reports.

This is the third of our Celtic Likely Lads and with both Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths set to leave the club in the next few days, with multiple bids arriving for the French Under 21 international striker and Dundee launching a loan bid to take Griffiths back to Dens Park, it certainly frees up wages to bridge the gap with the VVV Venlo goalscorer who was the told goalscorer in the Dutch Eredivisie last season scoring 30 of the 43 goals netted by the relegated minnows.

“Celtic and Giakoumakis made significant progress after yesterday’s talks for an agreement in personal terms. Some details are about to be discussed next 24-48h. Really close to a deal. Agreement in principle also with Venlo at €3m,” reports respected Greek sports journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos.

The other two Likely Lads, Josip Juranovic and Liam Scales, are now both Celtic players and it is increasingly likely that Georgios Giakoumakis will be joining after further talks . Celtic’s qualification for the Europa League Group Stages at the expense of AZ Alkmaar will increase the appeal for the Greece international striker with high profile ties against Bayer Leverkusen, Real Betis and our old friends Ferencvaros, where home and away victories will be the order of the day from the Celtic support.

Another player who has left Celtic is defender Leo Hjelde who completed his long trailed move to Leeds United earlier today for an undisclosed fee.
