Celtic ‘deserve loads of credit for simply getting the job done,’ David Potter

I don’t actually think that today’s game will stay in my memory for all that long. The weather may, though! The football was ordinary, but that is not meant to be a criticism, given the conditions. It was not easy to play good football, but Celtic (including a few of their fringe players) deserve loads of credit for simply getting the job done and jumping a hurdle which, no-body needs reminding, we once fell at!

I suppose I listen to the TV far too much, but I never for a moment felt that this game was going to go ahead. But credit to everyone, the game was played. I also feared that the conditions might be a leveller, I worried about the all weather pitch, and I also worried whether Neil had picked the right team. Such neuroticism was totally unfounded.

Ntcham scored the required early goal, Brown was on the spot to finish off a good move and it was nice to see Bayo (although the Broadwood public address system tried to tell us it was Soro!) get the third goal. I was impressed by James Forrest and Ryan Christie in particular.

In truth the second half was a little tedious with the game won, and Clyde unable to get back in to the game (although you still have to watch Goodwillie) with our defenders gobbling everything up with ease.

It was nice to see a ground we don’t go to very often, and their crowd, although small, was vocal and decent enough. It would be a shame if a club like that with such a history ever went the way of Third Lanark.

But time to move on – to St Johnstone in the next round. The League game a few weeks ago saw a brilliant first half from Celtic. It would be nice to see more of that, but we must not underestimate anyone.

In the meantime I look forward to see Hearts at Parkhead on Wednesday. The wind will have died down by them, so I want to see Celtic at their best.
