Celtic beat Hearts 3-2 today in a rather flattering scoreline for the Jam Tarts following absolute domination for Ange Postecoglou’s men – and the win over the Edinburgh-based outfit means that Celtic will face Kirkcaldy side Raith Rovers in the quarter-finals.
It is the best draw Celtic could have wished for in the quarters, given that Raith are the only side not in the Premier League left in the draw. However, they should not be taken lightly, having just beaten established and strong Premier League side Aberdeen 2-1 in the last 16, despite going 1-0 down to the Dons.
The result today saw Celtic continue their spell of playing incredible football; goals from Odsonne Edouard, Stephen Welsh and Kyogo Furuhashi saw the Hoops’ advance in front of a packed out Paradise.
However, the defensive side of the game still gives reason to be wary of concern. Carl Starfelt’s worrying liabilities at the back let Hearts back into the game, saved only by the brilliance of Kyogo.
The game will take place on the weekend of 21st-23rd September, as Celtic look to regain the trophy they squandered last season in the embarrassing 2-0 home loss against Ross County.
