Celtic enter the bidding to sign highly rated defender

According to Polish journalist Pawel Golaszewksi, Celtic have entered the race to sign Legia Warszawa centre back Maik Nawrocki and multiple sources indicate that Celtic have made a bid that is higher than the sum offered by Galatasaray.

The former Poland u21 international featured 31 times and scored four goals last season as the Polish giants finished second in the Ekstraklasa and won the Polish cup.

Nawrocki came through Bundesliga side Werder Bremen’s academy before joining Legia Warszawa on loan in the 2021/22 season, following this the Polish defender joined the Polish cup winners permanently last season for £1.5 million.

After his impressive first season as a permanent Warszawa player, the 22-year-old was included in the Poland provisional squad for the World Cup last year.

The Legia Warszawa centre-half will not be a cheap acquisition with the player valued at £4 million on transfermarkt- Maik Nawrocki – Player profile 23/24 | Transfermarkt.

Turkish champions Galatasaray are also said to be interested in the player, with several source reporting Legia want a higher fee of around £5m.

The German born defender looks an excellent talent in a position that badly needs further quality. However, only time will tell if Celtic’s determination to sign Nawrocki will be strong enough to outbid Turkish rivals Galatasaray. As things stand Celtic appear to be in pole position to get this one over the line.
