Celtic Euro Opposition Close Winter Break Disappointingly

All attention at Celtic Park has been on domestic duty since the Bhoys returned from Dubai, and rightly so, given the nature of the title race. However, with our league position looking a touch more comfortable after two slip ups across the city, a greater interest may have been rekindled in the forthcoming Europa League Last 32 clash with FC Copenhagen.

The Danish club have played a trio of friendlies whilst their league has been suspended due to the Superliga winter break. In this period the Dane’s saw off Swedish minnows, Halmstad FC (2-0), before opening The Atlantic Cup with a 1-0 victory over Astana. Today, however, Copenhagen rounded off their break in disappointing fashion with a 0-0 draw against mid-table Swedish club, IFK Norrkoping, in another Atlantic Cup Clash. The Swede’s ultimately prevailed in the penalty shoot-out by 3 goals to 1, but news of a potential double-injury blow could compound Copenhagen’s misery. Indeed, utility man, Jens Stage suffered a foot injury; the extent of which is not yet known. Whilst, winger, Rasmus Falk appeared to pick up a shoulder injury after hitting the ground awkwardly under challenge.

Copenhagen return to competitive action for the first time since 16 December 2019, on Friday evening when they travel to Esbjerg. It is their only league match before they host Celtic, giving the Hoops an edge in terms of match fitness going into the tie.
