Celtic face long haul trip to Armenia because of ‘Marching Season’

CELTIC have been drawn against Alashkert in their Champions League first qualifying round clash.

The Scottish Champions will travel to far-flung Armenia in the first leg where they will face Alashkert before playing the return leg at Celtic Park.

The first legs of the first qualifying round will be played on either Tuesday 10 July or Wednesday 11 July.

The return matches will then be played on either Tuesday 17 July or Wednesday 18 July.

The second round draw will be made later today. Celtic have to negotiate 4 rounds to reach the Champions League and that would mean a £40million windfall.

UEFA have taken Celtic away from their regionalised draws for these early rounds in the Qualifying stages after Linfield were unable to host Celtic on 12 July last summer on Police advice due to sectarian marches taking place in Belfast at that time.
