Celtic fans sent message to SPFL – 94% want the ’embarrassing’ split scrapped

WHY is it only called a ‘Title Decider” if we play THEM? No-one is calling the game against Hibs a “Title Decider” this morning but if Brendan had got his way then Celtic would have faced Rangers in the first match after the split and to everyone but us, it would have been called that! Strange!

The fixtures revealed yesterday where as we predicted on Monday night but we can reveal that there were TWO set of fixture proposals scrapped before we got to the list announced yesterday. Celtic would have had TWO Friday night matches in Edinburgh in the earlier proposals but were always going to open up by playing at Easter Road.

Neil Lennon got his way as Hibs held their ground to ensure that they would get two home games against Rangers and not therefore have to go back to Ibrox for a third match. Hearts, who had assistance from the SPFL in their early season fixtures to allow work on their new stand to be completed, are the losers – and it will mean that Rangers will NOT have played at Tynecastle this season, their earlier visit to Edinburgh having been played at Murrayfield.

Yesterday, before the fixtures were announced, we ran a poll asking if the Split should be Ditched? Here are the results:

YES, IT’S AN EMBARRASSMENT – 1193 VOTES (94%)

NO, IT ADDS EXCITEMENT – 70 VOTES (6%)

Here is the poll…

Anyway, Celtic’s skipper Scott Brown, is pleased to have been given the chance to win the Magnificent Seven back at Easter Rad where it all began for him before his big money move to sign for Gordon Strachan’s Celtic side.

“Obviously, Easter Road will always hold a special place in my heart as I have so many great memories from my early days there as a youngster with Hibs,” Broony said.

“That’s why, on a purely personal level, it would be the perfect place to win a title with Celtic at this stage in my career.

“We know we’re going to have our work cut out playing Hibs at Easter Road because Lenny has got them flying this season. They’ve had a great campaign.

“But we just want to get this league won at the earliest possible opportunity because we can take nothing for granted.”

Celtic led 2-0 at Easter Road in December but ended up nearly losing the game. It finished 2-2 and a similar scoreline – or worse – would set up the ‘Title Decider’ the next week, assuming of course that the Ibrox side win their opening post split fixture which is at home to third time Ibrox visitors Hearts.
