Celtic FC Foundation Join The #MoreThanFootball Campaign

Celtic FC Foundation have released a video today to announce that they have joined a host of football clubs and foundations throughout Europe, in taking part in the European Football Development Network’s (EFDN) #Morethanfootball campaign.

According to the Foundation’s website, “The EFDN consists of professional football clubs, leagues and Football Associations who are committed to their communities and social responsibilities and have the passion to cooperate and engage on a European level.

The network aims to promote the power of football as a tool for social development and support the efforts of the network members in their initiatives to use football to reach out to various target groups in their communities.

Through the #Morethanfootball campaign, EFDN members will showcase their Community and Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and highlight how their organisations are about more than just football.”

The campaign features a series of action days over the next four weeks, with a focus on Solidarity and Diversity, Education, Partnerships, Social Inclusion, Social Cohesion, Health and Wellbeing, Environmental Sustainability and Employability.

Over the coming weeks, Celtic FC Foundation will be participating in each of those action days, highlighting examples of their project delivery.

The charity is very much Walfrid’s legacy and has delivered a huge amount of aid in different areas over the last few years, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. The club was of course started to feed the needy children within the East End parishes of St Mary’s, St Michael’s and Sacred Heart. However, Celtic’s early committee had an international outlook, raising funds for evicted Irish tenants and assisting farmers suffering during the Boer War.

Celtic FC Foundation continues that vision with a whole range of local and international initiatives, some of which are shown in the footage above.

The Holy Grounds of Glasgow Celtic: A Guide To Celtic Landmarks & Sites Of Interest is a popular book, covering over 60 stories and locations.
