Poll Suggests Majority Of Celtic Fans Want Elyounoussi To Sign Permanently In Summer

Moi Elyounoussi has been in and out of the Celtic team all season, yet has notched up an impressive ratio of one goal every 171 mins in the SPFL, from left midfield. The Norwegian international scored a terrific hat-trick at Fir Park earlier this season and caught the eye with a fine diving header in yesterday’s Glasgow Derby. However, he is yet to nail down a regular first team place. This is partly due to the formation at times (3-5-2 earlier in the season), poorer performances due to playing out of position (used as a striker in the 3-5-2) and because of his inconsistency.

Southampton have reportedly slashed their asking price for the player from £10m down to £5m. A player of his pedigree and record would be a snip, on paper, at that price. Although, it is still a considerable outlay for a club like Celtic, which operates in the difficult market of Scottish football.

It is unclear as to what the club’s plans are for Elyounoussi, or what he intends to do himself. That said, I ran a Twitter poll this afternoon to get an insight into supporters views. The results were surprising in the sense that just over two thirds of the 271 respondents said that they would pursue the player this summer!

Some participants felt that Elyounoussi would flourish under new management, and if used as a left sided forward, presumably in a front three.

Meanwhile, others feel that he has not done enough to merit a permanent move. One fan also remarked that his Premier League wages could be a stumbling block, though reduced terms could be negotiated.
