Celtic FC Head of Youth Academy Chris McCart’s Update

YOUTH ACADEMY UPDATE from Chris McCart, Celtic’s Head of Celtic’s Youth Academy…

In line with Covid-19 Government guidance, the Celtic Academy, like everyone else, is doing its best to cope during what is an unprecedented and unique moment in our history. I would like to pay tribute and applaud all the NHS staff throughout the country on their dedication and hard work. They are keeping us safe at the front line of the battle against this awful virus, and as key workers of essential services, keeping the country going through these difficult times.

The safety of all Celtic colleagues is utmost in our minds and the Club have given our staff and young players very clear guidelines on what can be done during this period, in terms of safety and football. When one of the main focuses in your life is football, both playing and watching, it is important that we can continue to do this to the best of our ability, whilst adhering to Government restrictions.

The Academy staff are working diligently to ensure the young players continue with their technical and physical development. In terms of coaching, the staff have prepared materials, which young players can work on at home and in their garden. We will regularly update and add to the materials and send them to the parent groups. The feedback from parents has been excellent and the encouragement they have given the players to carry this out, has been first class.

Our Sports Science staff have also distributed programmes, which the players religiously work through, on a regular basis. Again this will be added to as time goes on. We have also been able to provide parents with nutritional information and psychological guidance, to ensure our young players come out of this period in the best physical and mental shape possible.

We are regularly updating our parent group on information we receive from the Club and the Governing Bodies, to ensure they are aware of any changes to procedure.

A great deal of the work our young players have doing has been posted on our Twitter account each day. As well as keeping our followers informed, our parents have highlighted how important this has been to the players in terms of social contact with their teammates. It has also become quite competitive in terms of how many views each video is getting.

Keeping the Academy active has been vital for all during this period and once again we cannot thank all the Celtic Pools stakeholders enough for the support we receive each year. The work carried out by the Agents and lottery players, especially during these difficult and challenging times, is very much appreciated. Without your support we would find it harder to deliver the level of professionalism we have delivered, in the various areas of developing young players for the future of ‘Your Club’.

Please stay safe and well.
