Celtic fear they will need to sell star this Summer after no breakthrough in contract talks

It always seems to be a question of when Celtic will need to sell their best players rather than if, so it’s probably best for the fans to appreciate Odsonne Edouard as much as they can just now.

The Frenchman always looked promising since his arrival, but this season can be considered as a true breakthrough campaign.

His pace, power and physical ability makes him unplayable at times, while 26 Celtic goals this season and a record of 11 in 6 for the French U21 team shows just how incredible he is.

All of this means that it’s inevitable that there will be plenty of speculation over his future in the Summer.

The latest update doesn’t make great reading from a Celtic point of view, but it may also be making a big deal out of nothing.

According to a report from Football Insider 247, “a source” has said Celtic are concerned they may need to sell him this Summer after talks over a new contract went nowhere.

How much is he worth?

It’s suggested that his Celtic deal runs until 2022, so this could be a key Summer for the club. If they can’t tie him down then it might make sense to cash in while his stock is at it’s highest.

It’s possible he falls off next year or an injury could strike and that would lower his value the following Summer when he will only have one year to go on his deal.

The best thing would be for Celtic to find a way to extend his deal, that would kill off most of the speculation and it means a huge fee would be needed to let him go.

It will be fascinating to find out how much he is actually worth, but let’s hope we’re still a while away from that happening.
