Celtic flop states Glasgow Derby is bigger than Liverpool v Everton

Jonjoe Kenny has stated that the Glasgow Derby is a bigger fixture than the Merseyside Derby after the fullback completed a move to Hertha Berlin. The 25-year-old came through the ranks with Everton before rejecting an offer to remain at Goodison Park instead of a move to the Bundesliga.

However, speaking to Morgenpost (via Record Sport), Kenny spoke about the best derby match that he has played in as he looks forward to facing Union Berlin with new side Hertha. Although, the player did admit that there were no fans in the ground for the two derby matches that he featured in.

“The biggest is the Glasgow Derby, but unfortunately there were no fans there. Playing with Everton against Liverpool was particularly emotional.

“Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve kind of hated Liverpool. It was always my dream to play against them, and luckily, I did.”

The right-back slot was one in which Celtic were desperately needing cover with Frimpong leaving for Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £11.5m. Kenny appeared to be an exciting prospect and the club faced competition from Burnley to bring the player in during the January window; however, he failed to live up to any hype and his performances versus Rangers proved that he was not good enough to be at Celtic. The Clarets were quoted £8m when they inquired about the former England U21 but he ended up at Celtic Park. In his time at the club, Kenny made 15 appearances and assisted 4 times.

It was a dismal period for Celtic; however, Ange Postecoglou’s arrival as well as signing Josip Juranovic and rejuvenating Tony Ralston has resulted in Celtic’s right back position becoming one of the strongest positions on the park.

Hopefully, Kenny will enjoy success in Germany as Celtic looks to retain the League and League Cup whilst competing for the Scottish Cup and in Europe.
