Renowned Bundesliga broadcaster states Celtic face €8m bill for Schalke defender

Renowned Bundesliga broadcaster Derek Rae has stated that Celtic face an €8m bill for Schalke defender Malick Thiaw. The German defender is currently with Schalke but the club are believed to be open to selling, especially as they close in on a deal to sign Christopher Jullien from Celtic.

Reports today have suggested that Celtic are in talks with the German club over a potential deal that includes Thiaw. A supporter has contacted Derek Rae via Twitter with the Scottish commentator updating fans to say that the links appear to only be from the Scottish media.

The €8m fee is also too steep for Celtic, especially given the outlay paid for Cameron Carter-Vickers. The manager clearly prefers Carl Starfelt and the American who joins on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur. However, with Jullien expected to leave, the club will need to strengthen at the back.
