Celtic get Cash Boost

CELTIC are in line or a cash windfall of around £600,000 should Hearts’ sought after teenager Aaron Hickey move to the English Premiership in January amid significant interest in the former Celtic youth talent.

Both Manchester City and Southampton have been credited with interest in the 17 year old full back who broke into the Hearts team last season. Hickey knocked back a pro-contract at Celtic when he turned 16 and instead opted for a move through to Hearts.

Celtic were disappointed at losing the highly rated youngster but rather than accept a small development fee insisted, according to Scottish Sun this morning, on a 30% sell-on clause. That now looks likely to net the Treble Treble winners around £600,000 if Hickey’s transfer proceeds as expected.

Hickey played against Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final in May and ‘scored’ the winner against Hibs at Easter Road last weekend , although technically as it was a deflection Craig Levein is bound to have ruled it out and awarded an own goal to the Hibs player. That’s the way it works, right?

Anyway, Celtic may have missed out on Hickey but a shrewd decision to insert a sell-on clause in the deal looks like paying dividends.
