Four Celts in Scotland squad as Shankland gets called up

FOUR Celtic players have been named in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for the forthcoming Euro qualifiers against Russia and San Marino.

Scotland are away to Russia on Thursday 10 October and then at home to San Marino three days later on Sunday 13 October. The chances of qualifying from this group are well and truly over after the awful results that both Clarke and his predecessor Alex McLeish suffered. Last month Scotland suffered successive home defeats to Russia and Belgium.

The four Celts in the squad are Greg Taylor, who has yet to feature at Celtic since completing his move from Kilmarnock, Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor and James Forrest.

There is no place for former Celtic Star Kieran Tierney amid further injury worries at his new club. Tierney was not included in the Arsenal squad for last night’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

John Fleck and Lawrence Shankland both have earned call ups. Shankland may be the useful in the San Marino game. Celtic and the Rangers both were reported to have scouted the player who has started the season at Dundee Utd so impressively since his move from Ayr Utd.

Other former Celts in the squad are David Marshall and Charlie Mulgrew.
